Why You Should Reconsider the Side Part Sew-In…..

 It’s 2026 and so many styles have come and gone….

But certain styles are here to stay…and that’s where the typical Sew in and the “ Quick Weave” enter the chat….

First, the style, when done correctly is beautiful. You’ll see the hair cascading down the face and back, perhaps with layers or not. 

However, what makes the style is a DEEP side part on the side of the head, where the hair is slicked down and baby hairs styled around the edges. 

You’re here so I don’t have to explain what these two styles mean or even look like. A sew in has tracks sewn onto braids or a weft whereas, the Quick Weave has tracks glued onto a cap. 

They both produce the same styled ends, roughly with some reportedly stating that the Quick Weave is both quicker and flatter, going better visual results at times than the Sew-In…although results will vary based on the skill of the person styling the hair. 

Now, I found representatives of the type of hairstyle that I’m talking about and I made sure to remove their faces, background, or any identifying characteristic because the topic isn’t the person, but the hairstyle at hand. 

These are very popular styles today in 2026, where the stylist takes your hair, slicks the side down and adds baby hairs for a more “natural, seamless look”. Whether the style looks truly “natural” is debatable, but I started to notice a small pattern. …

The girls wearing this style constantly were showing breakage where this style is “flattened” against the side of the head. 

Think about it ladies…you’re putting gel, spritz, heavy creams, and other styling products over your natural hair, and to add insult to injury, when you do it excessively, you’re just causing MAJOR breakage and damage over time. 

If you Have to wear this style, then switch sides at least. However, that will just lead to damage on both sides eventually.  

Constantly putting stress on that side with gels, heavy creams and pomades, applying heat, gel, sprays, and just applying tension on that side WILL eventually lead to extreme hair loss. 

Again, the pictures were edited to assure that the focus stays on the style and NOT the person wearing the style. 

ON a personal note, you guys I don’t understand why you go out there and bully OTHER people for what they do with THEIR hair. 

I just will never understand that, especially knowing that so many of YOU reading these words have made mistakes, believed old wives tales over scientific reasoning, and did some things that were completely damaging to your hair, to act as if you’re better than some of these people when you’ve lived the same things they have…

It’s a beautiful style, yes. However, if you’re growing your hair out, it would not be the BEST style to support your goals.  Maintaining your hair growth isn’t easy all the time in this changing world. However, choosing the perfect style for your lifestyle that won’t break your hair off is imperative to continue your hair growth journey. 

Please reconsider doing this style on the regular if you want to achieve long and strong hair.
